Are you in Year 10 or 11?
Do you love to write?
Are you interested in the plight of children who are forced to become child soldiers?
I was. Well, I wasn’t in year 10 or 11, but I do love to write, and I’m very interested in the plight of child soldiers, so I wrote a book about it. Cleverly disguised as a book about fashion! But if you look closely, you’ll see that the most important bit is about child soldiers and the SECOND most important bit is about who wears what to the Oscars.
Anyway, I’ve had my go, but there’s a competition for students who are inspired on the subject, and I highly recommend it. It’s run by Human Rights Watch and it gives YOU the chance to learn about this fascinating, tragic topic, let your imagination go and see what you can do. You have until 18 December to submit your entry, which can be poetry, a story or a ‘my point of view’ essay. All the details are on the Right Words website, along with ideas for where to do your research and get your inspiration.
Get going! Quick! Only one month to go!
Let’s raise awareness and help bring those children back to their families. And stop children from being taken, ever again. Your turn.
